Description

In the 8th century BC Chian colonists reached the Thracian coastline and founded the colony of Maronia, near Ismarus, where the Thracian tribes were based. In the new area they found mild Mediterranean climate, fertile plains for growing olives, cereals and vines –of which they had a tradition and a natural harbor to fishand promote trade. The port of ancient Maronia flourished, which yielded profits and prosperity for the residents of the city, but also fostered competition with their neighbors.

Option A

NO

DescriptionOptionA

It doesn’t matter. Maybe a mistake was made with the identification of the location.
Remains of the breakwater of the 4th century BC are preserved in the east part of the modern port of Agios Charalambos. The location of the colony is privileged, as it offers a great view of Thassos and Samothrace.
