Description

Going up the road towards the north we find the wall of the Byzantine town. The wall had a shape of an irregular trapezoid, rampart on the north side and four-sided towers in the corners. Near the port, parts of it are preserved in a great height.
Follow the course of the wall. Which part of it is better preserved nowadays? Do you notice building material in second use?

Right! It is one of the towers and more specifically the northwest tower of the Middle Byzantine wall. It has more than one room, as it is located near a gate. On the west side of the tower reused architectural elements and sculptures of earlier eras are distinguished. Can you find them?

It doesn’t matter. Maybe a mistake was made with the identification of the location.
The best preserved section of the wall is the northwest tower of the Middle Byzantine period. On the western side architectural sculptures from previous historical periodshad been incorporatedin the masonry.
